My self-congratulatory mood soured when I realized that it was, in fact, amazon who had trained me to want all this stuff. (But whatever, I still want them. You can't tell me that the following wouldn't be really good books.) ************ -The Noodle Maker: A Novel by Ma Jian An entreprenuerial son surreally roasts his willing mother in his busy homemade crematoriam... A wealthy professional blood donor argues with his old friend, a blocked writer one book away from his entry into the Dictionary of Great Chinese Writers... -Perpetual Motion by Graeme Gibson A Canadian pioneer attempts to build a perpetual motion device using a dinosaur bone that he dug up on his farm... -Mr. Muo's Travelling Couch by Dai Sijie A French-trained psychoanalyst returns to China to find his lost love who is imprisoned by a tyrannical local judge with a predilection for virgins... -The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz Oscar is a 300 pound lovesick ghetto nerd who dreams of becoming the Dominican J.R. Tolkien...
