To give an impression of tight security for the G8 Summit, the train station in Aomori was literally swarming with cops today.

Not that that's particularly interesting.

What is interesting is that I realized that this is basically how I imagine Communism. That is, lots of men wearing uniforms in public places. Some making an effort to appear dignified and as if they are doing something meaningful by standing around. And others so bored that they're beyond caring whether or not that shows.

I made a lame attempt to look suspicious (wearing sunglasses inside, rummaging through my bag while looking kind of upset and frequently checking the exact time) secretly hoping that one of the policemen would come over to question me which would, in turn, give me a chance to ask what the cops were having for lunch. Sadly, this didn't work. (I imagine Capitalists getting better lunches than Communists get and wanted to find out whether or not this is so... We may, perhaps, never know. One thing that I can say for certain is that the lunch I'd packed for myself today was sorely lacking.)
